Position Title: Group Chief Operations Officer
Reports to: Group CEO
Education
•Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting field; Masters’ degree /MBA is an added advantage
•Senior manager with at least 15 years’ experience in a similar environment and at least 5 years at executive level
Experience
•At least 15 years working experience in the financial services industry of which 7 years should have been in a senior management position.
•Should have experience in leading large company and managing complex journey towards a “retail bank-lite” model.
•Has led a business with multiple geographies ideally in Africa.
•Proven record in evincing strategic and performance driven leadership with the ability to take a vision and turning it into a practical road map, which takes into account the complexities associated with working in Africa.
•A strong team leader with experience in co-ordinating a team’s day to day activity, managing multiple priorities and deadlines;
•Results driven, proven track record in exceeding goals and a bottom-line orientation
Certifications
Member in good standing of an appropriate institute
Knowledge
•Highly knowledgeable on international best practices and standardized processes with working experience of partnership management.
•Strong financial literacy, able to analyse and develop complex budgets;
•Strong operational knowledge including supporting a service business to be compliant across all areas of its business – financial, legal, HR etc;
•Excellent communication skills and highly literate; able to operate with diplomacy, tact and empathy;
•Essential personal qualities – strong ‘completer-finisher’, conscientious, efficient; energetic, determined
Skills
•Expertise in Regional Management of Technology and operations (global, EMEA or Africa), to include Emerging markets.
•Expertise in programme management of regional mobilization or agile teams who are critical to providing a bridge to execution and delivery of Group strategic projects and country business priorities.
•Technically proficient in risk capital management, technology prowess, regulatory compliance, Asset liability management, mergers and acquisition, Board reporting and presentation.
•Outstanding business planning and analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to identify and utilize best practices and performance benchmarks
•Expert in communicating a compelling vison and fostering teamwork, assessing talent and building capability in order to support country CEOs and Group Heads towards achieving their operational plans and bottom line targets.
•Good cultural awareness and ability to influence and gain buy in at all levels from the Senior executive team through to operational team members across range of different countries / cultures. He/she should be able to demonstrate ability to develop good working relationships with all levels of management (Executive and other levels) for a smooth running of the business.
•Strategic vision and agility, ability to think strategically, anticipate future consequences and trends and incorporate them into the organisational plan;
Main Purpose of the Job
The COO shall have the primary responsibility of leading the day-to-day operations of the business of the Corporation and its subsidiaries in accordance with the strategic plan and operating and capital budgets i.e ensures the company has effective operational and financial procedures in place. To develop revenue opportunities that result in increased profitability and healthy balance sheet growth in all subsidiaries, with the goal of increasing shareholder value. Also responsible to continuously monitoring the macro environment to understand trends that Letshego can leverage in the technology, operations and innovation space to drive efficiencies and future provide the business model.
Critical Deliverables /Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Responsible for Group functions strategy and aligning country functions strategy, goals and priorities to support the Group performance ambitions, at both subsidiary level and Group Head office functions.
Works in partnership with business divisions and infrastructure functions to deliver Letshego’s strategic business objectives.
Drives the company’s operating capabilities to surpass customer satisfaction and retention, and company goals.
Develops and implements a world class operational strategy that integrates Operations, Technology, Business Transformation and Shared Services.
Responsible for serving as the custodian of operational policies and procedures of the business. Ensure that the policies are up to date, well communicated, enforced and to advise on changes to enhance the business risk.
Develops revenue opportunities across all locations of the business that result in increased profitability and quality balance sheet growth in all subsidiaries.
Ensures that business cases for local investment are developed, socialized and contribute to development and bottom line impact in conjunction with the Group Exco.
Stimulates competitive advantage to the business, supporting business strategy and proactively responding to business needs.
Ensures adherence at all times to financial control policy and other related policies / procedures by ensuring the following are in place: budget planning, cost control and reconciliations.
Ensures that the highest level of customer service management is maintained and the changing customer needs and requirements are recognized and adopted.
Identifies opportunities to utilize and implement emerging technologies into Letshego’s practices and operations.
Delivers on new ways of working i.e. Enterprise Agility to create better speed to market, increased staff engagement and better customer solutions across the Group.
