  1. Main Purpose (Why does the exist)

To define, create, and maintain the data architecture, structures, models, and integrations for the organization. This role ensures the precision, scalability, resilience, and efficiency of data solutions and infrastructure, facilitating insightful analytics and business intelligence.

  1. Critical Deliverables /Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Define and communicate the data architecture strategy that aligns with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Design and implement database structures, schemas, and integrations to support application and business needs.
  • Ensure robustness, performance, scalability, and security of the data infrastructure.
  • Engage with stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver solutions accordingly.
  • Define and implement data governance, quality, and lifecycle management strategies.
  • Maintain an understanding of the evolving data landscape, including emerging tools and techniques.
  • Work closely with the IT security team to ensure data privacy and security standards are met.
  • Collaborate with the enterprise architecture team to align data strategies with the broader IT vision and strategy.

  • Collaborating with various departments to translate business objectives into cohesive and efficient data solutions.

 

  1. Education, Knowledge and Experience of Job Holder:  
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
  • Post Graduate degree or certificate in Data Management or Analytics is advantageous.
  • 6+ years in IT or Data Analytics, with a minimum of 3 years focused on data architecture and management.
  • Proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing large-scale databases and data warehouses.
  • Demonstrated experience in various database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, NewSQL, etc.)
  • Experience with ETL tools, processes, and data pipeline construction.
  • Previous exposure to Big Data technologies and analytics platforms.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent (Preferred).
  • Cloud Data Analytics certification (Azure Preferred).
  • TOGAF Certification (Optional)
  • Profound knowledge of data modelling and design principles.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data solutions and technologies.
  • Understanding of data integration, federation, and orchestration strategies.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data lifecycle management practices.
  • Awareness of regulations like GDPR, DPA, POPIA, and their implications on data management.

  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Proficient in data modelling tools like ERD, Star Schema, Snowflake, etc.
  • Ability to evaluate, select, and implement Big Data technologies like Hadoop, and Spark.
  • Strong analytical, logical analysis, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Capable of translating business requirements into technical data solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in SQL and understanding scripting languages like Python and Java.
  • Capacity to mentor and train other team members in data best practices.
